USAID is embarking on this inclusive education activity entitled Reading for All Malawi (REFAM). The REFAM activity will build on USAID Malawi’s extensive work to date in teaching children to read by expanding support to Malawi’s National Reading Program to address the needs of CWD currently enrolled in Resource Centers (RCs) across the country in order to help them better acquire reading skills. In particular, the activity will focus on young children, and especially girls, in Standards 1-4 with visual, hearing, or intellectual disabilities. The goal of REFAM is to develop a scalable intervention that allows for the screening, identification, placement, instruction, and testing of learners with disabilities in order to teach them to read.
