Business Development and Grants Coordinator | Uganda – Kampala Office
Reports to Uganda Country Director | Full time | June 2019
What we do in Uganda
ARC Uganda’s mission is to work with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to refugees, displaced people, and host communities. We help people survive conflict and crisis and rebuild lives of dignity, health, security, and self-sufficiency. ARC is committed to the delivery of programs that ensure measurable quality and lasting impact for the people we serve. ARC Uganda, with its head office in Kampala, is currently providing gender-based violence prevention and response, water and sanitation, food security and livelihood services to South Sudanese and Congolese Refugees (who fled to Uganda) and host communities in six locations of Uganda –BidiBidi, Palabek, Kyaka-II, Kyangwali, Oruchinga and Nakivale. It is also home to ARC’s breakthrough initiatives Kuja Kuja and Safe Rides.
Who We Are
We are on a journey to build Alight, a new platform of amazing people and organizations providing lifesaving services and creating breakthrough solutions for and with the displaced.
For the past 40 years, we’ve called ourselves American Refugee Committee, an organization known for providing quality care to millions of refugees worldwide. But the truth is, we serve many different people – refugees to be sure, but trafficked people, displaced people, and marginalized communities, too – anyone in the world searching for a way to help. And through all the years and conversations we’ve had with the people we serve, we’ve heard the same thing time and time again – refugee is not a label we want.
We’re listening. And now, we’re taking off the nametag American Refugee Committee and becoming Alight.
Becoming Alight is a journey – we haven’t arrived yet. We’re immersing ourselves in the work of pioneering a new kind of human institution. One that exists to unleash abundance, that’s committed to providing and designing human-worthy services. We’re making proximity to our customers our guiding star, democratizing co-design of programs and projects – because everyone has the power to change their future.
We’re only building on the conversations we’ve had, the insights we’ve gained, and the breakthroughs we’ve made over the past 40 years. And although we’re committed to this journey to fully explore what it means to be a humanitarian organization for the 21st Century, we will continue the same critical work we’ve always done – providing health care, clean water, shelter, protection and economic opportunities to more than 3.5 million people in 17 countries each year. Alight only allows us to do even more, to do better, for all different kinds of people in different kinds of ways. To fully embrace the abundance of everyday people, and to bring everyone along for the ride.
If you are looking for a job, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a place where you can unleash your creativity, leverage your experience and that of those around you, we invite you to join us. We expect and reward disruption, transcendence and change making.
