Tiyatien Health is presently hiring for the position of Program Director. I’d be grateful if you could please share this posting with your respective networks and with anyone who you think might be qualified and interested in the position.
Tiyatien Health (TH) is a local NGO headquartered in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County and focused on “last mile health”. By pioneering and proving new possibilities in health delivery in Liberia’s most remote villages, we aim to create a new standard of health care for the poorest of the poor throughout.
TH began in 2007 when the health care system in Liberia was largely destroyed from 14 years of civil war. Patients with HIV were unable to access care locally so a group of patient advocates came together with other partners to persuade the government to allow ART to be delivered by a highly trained Physician Assistant and complemented by a cadre of home-based care providers. Tiyatien’s so-called accompanier program was so successful in keeping patients in care that in 2010, the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare requested TH to expand the program to 19 ART sites nationally.
In July 2012, we launched an innovative community health worker pilot in one of the hardest-to-reach areas in Liberia: Konobo District. These CHWs will be trained to provide a package of primary care services aimed at saving the lives of women and children in a region plagued by high maternal and child mortality. We are committed to direct partnership with the Ministry of Health and are also working alongside staff at Konobo Health Center to strengthen the health care delivery system.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE: Tiyatien is an dynamic, fast-paced organization with strong links to the community and academic bodies like Harvard & Johns Hopkins. After nearly 2.5 years here in Zwedru, come April 30th I’ll be moving on from my position as Program Director at Tiyatien Health (TH). This job has been an incredible and inspiring experience. Working in a rural area for a local NGO certainly has its unique set of challenges, but they are easily matched by the passion and commitment of the team and the excitement of the work. If you are drawn to grassroots development, have patience for logistical challenges, are unafraid to get your hands dirty (literally) and wish to work for an NGO that is innovative and growing every day, then this is the job for you.
