About the position
At the World Agroforestry Geoscience Lab, we work with advanced remote sensing analysis and predictive modeling of a range of different land and ecosystem health indicators and ecological processes. Scientists and quantitative analysts work with in-house projects and across the Centre, supporting projects with data processing and analysis, as well as visualization of data. Using analytical rigor and statistical methods, including machine learning, your job will be to conduct data mining and analysis of field and remote sensing data to map deforestation in tropical ecosystems, and to assess and map disease prevalence in agroforestry systems. This will include assessments of spatial patterns and trends, and to some extent forecasting and assessments of risk. You will also work with our team of ecologists, soil scientists, hydrologists and remote sensing experts to assess interactions with soil and land health. Your job will be part of global efforts on assessments of land degradation and land restoration led by World Agroforestry, where you will contribute to data analytics and mapping for spatial targeting of interventions and analysis of temporal trends and breaking-points or ecosystem regime-shifts. You will work with Scientists, Data Analysts, Administrators and Project Managers to develop high quality journal papers, as well as analytical outputs and maps that help our clients and stakeholders make better management decisions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Using analytical rigor and statistical methods, job will be to conduct data mining and analysis, and to develop user-friendly dashboard interfaces to often complex data and evidence.
2. Supervision of a team of junior data scientists and analysts.
3. Data processing and analytical tasks.
4. Assist in maintaining GSL landscape portal data.
5. Work with Scientists, Data Analysts, Administrators and Project Managers within the GSL team on various data analysis tasks using R statistics and Python.
