Sheladia Associates is seeking a professional Safeguard (Environment/Social) Expert (International) to join our team on an ongoing USAID-funded Lagos Urban Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Activity (LUWASH) project in Nigeria.
The objective of this project is to support our Client, The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), in the expansion and improvement of urban WASH service delivery and infrastructure through strengthened governance, increased accountability, and improved financial and technical capabilities of public water utilities and private sector providers. The specific duties for this role will include:
1. Lead the team on project document review including Safeguard documents.
2. Guide and contribute to incorporating best Safeguard practices during the reconstruction/rehabilitation design/review process.
3. Monitor and guide the local contractors on Environmental and Social safeguard practices and requirements under the contract during the construction and operation period.
4. Plan, design, and provide on-ground training and organized meetings with the key stakeholders with support from national safeguard specialists and other team members.
5. Contribute to project reports on Environmental and Social Safeguard compliances.
6. Coordinate with stakeholders and assist the CoP on all safeguard issues.
7. Any other task as directed by the CoP/management to meet the project requirements.
Required Qualifications:
· Masters in Environmental Engineering, Science, Development Management, or relevant qualification
· 15 years of professional experience in the Infrastructure sector
· 3 years in Urban WASH projects
· 5 Years prior experience on Donor funded projects such as USAID/UN/JICA is highly desired.
