The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty.
UN-Habitat’s Regional Office for Arab States was established in Cairo in 2011. The office provides support to 18 countries in the region, including active programmes in 13 countries. As part of this support, the office’s Donor Relations and Resource Mobilization team keeps an up-to-date database of existing and potential donor organizations that support UN-Habitat’s mandate. This resource is intended to help country offices approach donors and develop new project ideas. The Online Volunteer will play a vital role in maintaining and improving the database.
For the collection of data on donors and funding opportunities, we seek support from one Online Volunteer, who under the guidance of the Donor Relations and Resource Mobilization Team will: – Populate the donor database with missing details – Create links between relevant parts of the database – Research and add potential donors and funding opportunities – Propose improvements to the database structure and management routines – Develop mechanisms to increase the use of the database by country offices The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to build connections with the team at UN-Habitat’s Regional Office for Arab States and the associated country programmes, and learn about the ways in which data can support resource mobilization and donor relations.
