Aims of the Organization
Since its foundation in 1968, GRT (Group for Transcultural Relations) has been working with socially marginalized groups and individuals by setting up protection mechanisms in order to promote social inclusion.
GRT is active in Somalia/Kenya since 1996, where the main fields of intervention are: Community Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Protection (GBV and Street Children) and (forced) Migrations, being expression of GRT’s core areas of expertise.
Coherently with our mandate we work with and through local communities identifying resources, knowledge and practices which are culturally available and socially accepted to enhance local sustainability and projects ownership. GRT’s work, collection and analysis of data, capacity building training of Local Partners have paved the way towards the establishment of a piloting system of Social Welfare and Social Working in the country.
Job Description
In a bid of improving the quality of comprehensive protection services for GBV survivors and vulnerable children the organization seeks to fill the position of MHPSS Training Expert.
The MHPSS Training Expert will be responsible for the overall implementation of mental health and psychosocial trainings and capacity building of staff (GRT and partners) in relation to GRT’ protection activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· To assume primary responsibility for daily management and implementation of MHPSS training activities, and ensure compliance with programme’s objectives, workplans and expenditure plans.
· To develop staff (GRT & partners) capacity building plans to actively promote staff development;
· To develop/review training materials and provide ongoing MHPSS trainings and guidance to staff and partner to ensure programming meets best practice standards;
· To develop and implement monitoring and evaluation system of MHPSS trainings;
· To perform regular monitoring visits to project sites;
· To fulfill all donor and GRT reporting requirements as directed by senior management;
· To liaise closely with other sectors within GRT to identify areas of collaboration;
· To manage the programme budget related to MHPSS trainings and capacity building in a timely manner and to ensure sound administrative practices with regards to record keeping, procurement and financial requests;
· To contribute to project proposal writing, to identify and elaborate new interventions on the basis of GRT strategies, in collaboration with GRT senior management;
· To actively attend field and/or regional thematic working groups as directed by Regional Representative.
Required qualification and competencies:
· Master’s degree in psychology, in social work or other appropriate fields (or a Bachelor with relevant working experience in a similar position);
· At least 2-3 years field experience in humanitarian context in the area of MHPSS/Protection;
· Proven experience as trainer;
· Knowledge of IASC guidelines on MHPSS in Emergency settings and other international guiding principles and manuals;
· Strong knowledge of forced migration issues;
· Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team;
· Excellent command of spoken and written English;
· Strong computer skills: must be competent in the use of Windows, MS office programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), outlook;
· Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation;
· Report/proposal writing skills;
· Excellent communication skills;
· Independent and motivated to work in limited resource and insecure environment;
· Flexible (ability to cope with stressful situations);
· Cultural and gender sensitivity, open-minded.
Desirable Competencies
· Familiarity with transcultural /ethnopsychiatric approaches;
· Ability to speak Somali and/or Italian language is an asset;
· Previous experience and understanding of Somali context is advisable.
