Strengthening Social Mobilization for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Prevention and Improved Child Wellbeing in Eight Guinean Prefectures
Background
ChildFund International intends to recruit a Consultant with a background in Psycho-social support (PSS) and Health or PSS and Education with specific expertise in social mobilization at the community and school level, training local officials, community health workers, and community members on PSS, and responding to the psychosocial needs of communities affected by the EVD epidemic in eight Guinean prefectures. The Consultant will lead implementation of social mobilization and training activities for 4-6 months, monitor work plans, and write reports.
Key Responsibilities:
In close collaboration with ChildFund’s Project Manager, the Consultant will:
Provide technical leadership to develop social mobilization activities at the community and school level and develop timeline and cost.
Develop training materials and empowerment approaches to train clubs at the school level to empower students to lead social mobilization activities to bring awareness about EVD prevention and to reduce stigmatization in school and the community.
Update training materials for teachers, community health workers and mother’s groups training in psycho-social support following the Inter Agency Standing Committee Guidelines on Mental Health and Psycho-social Support in Emergencies and aligned with the Child Protection Cluster in Guinea
Prepare training plans and reports.
Participate actively in the process of elaboration of the national strategy in PSS.
Other duties as needed.
Deliverables:
Development of planning documents for social mobilization related to EVD.
Development of training plans and reports.
Development of training manuals and contents on PSS, in collaboration with the Project Manager:
4-6 months in Guinea – contingent upon ChildFund securing the funding.
Language:
Fluent written and spoken French and working knowledge of English.
Management and Supervision
The Consultant will report to ChildFund’s Project Manager in Guinea. The Consultant will work closely with the Project Manager, ChildFund Guinea Program Manager and SSR/LPs field team.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in public health, mental health, or education.
Three years of experience living or working in a developing country with an NGO is required. experience living and working in Guinea or emergency settings is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of Inter Agency Standing Committee Guidelines on Mental Health and Psycho-social Support in Emergencies, Familiarity with relevant WHO program standards and guidelines, including best practices for stopping EVD transmission.
The consultant must have strong leadership qualities.
Experience with effective social mobilization strategies, particularly child-friendly methodologies, is required.
Experience with community health projects is an advantage.
