SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
Expected to start in June/July 2024 and to last for an initial 3-year period, the FCDO-funded approx. £9.3m Urban Resilience and Just Energy Transition Programme will support green growth, just energy transition and sustainable urbanisation in South Africa.
The Urban Resilience component is expected to deliver technical assistance at the municipal level in order to:
An initial 10 cities and 5 provinces have been identified for scaling up/down technical assistance under the Urban Resilience component:

KwaZulu Natal
Eastern Cape
Limpopo
Mpumalanga
The Just Energy Transition (JET) component is expected to:
The initial focus will be on getting two priority projects in Mpumalanga focusing on water (including bulk water supply, waste-water and non-revenue water, and solar pumping) and energy distribution (non-revenue energy i.e. technical and commercial loss reduction and grid upgrades) through to financial close with the African Development Bank and onto implementation. Additional projects may then be added and developed, including in and beyond Mpumalanga.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Cowater is looking for an experienced Team Leader for the programme.
The Team Leader will lead the delivery, taking special responsibility for the technical design, oversight, and quality assurance of all interventions and deliverables, as well as the oversight of the team as a whole. The Team Leader will take a lead role in stakeholder engagement and be a senior technical expert in a related field.
The candidate must demonstrate internationally competitive senior expertise in leadership, strategy development and delivery of climate-related programmes, and possess expert communication skills, critical thinking and results delivery.
